Congratulations to CSL Moot Court Honor Board members Erin Wilson and Taylor Norman, who advanced to the quarterfinals at this weekend’s Burton D. Wechsler First Amendment Moot Court Competition at American University Washington College of Law in Washington, DC.
The CSL team advanced twice and placed in the top 8 of 27 competitors. Facing teams from the law schools at Florida State University, South Texas, Cleveland-Marshall, and SMU Dedmon, Judges commented that the CSL students’ command of the case law was “spectacular.” Wilson and Taylor were coached by Prof. Ashley London, Moot Court faculty advisor.
Special thanks to all of the faculty members and alumni who helped prepare this team for competition by serving as guest judges for our practice rounds. This advancement marks the second time this semester that CSL Moot Court Honor Board members have advanced at external competitions. We thank everyone for their support of our Moot Court program!
The first amendment to the Constitution states: “Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press . . .”. Every year there are numerous challenges to books on library shelves and in classrooms with requests to remove materials due to content or appropriateness. This leads to restricted access to the challenged books, which is in direct violation of our first amendment rights.
The Charlotte School of Law Moot Court Honor Board would like to congratulate Torian Giles and Amanda Cargile for advancing to the octo-finals at the Emory Civil Rights and Liberties Moot Court competition Oct. 9-11 in Atlanta, Ga. Coached by CSL Moot Court alum, Cassidy Estes-Rogers, these ladies knocked it out of the park and made the CSL Moot Court Honor Board proud. A great start to our year!!
